The Third Party Liability (TPL) computer-based training (CBT) educates providers on TPL, identifying other insurance and third party resources (TPRs), and responsibilities for filing claims and reporting other insurance and TPR to the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP).

At the conclusion of this CBT, you should be able to:

  • Define TPL and its components.
  • Determine whether a client has other insurance, and notify TMHP if you find other insurance.
  • Recognize TPRs and non-TPRs.
  • Describe the components of cost avoidance, cost recovery, and tort.
  • Comply with claim submission deadlines.
  • Locate TPL contact information.

This CBT has been designed to give you the most up-to-date information as of the publication date. It is your responsibility to regularly review the current Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual (TMPPM) and Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program Provider Manual, and all updated information as it is published on the TMHP website in web articles and banner messages.
